Did you ever have a really bad craving for something but you couldn’t quit put your finger on what it was? This happens to me all the time mostly with food but sometimes in life. I get this feeling like I really want something; I just don’t know what I want. This feeling can get really annoying. It’s hard to go after what you want when you do not know what it is that you want. It’s as if you are running a race as hard and fast as you can without knowing where the finish line is.
This feeling can make staying motivated hard. It is a lot easier to stay motivated and put your all into something when you have a vision of where you want things to end up. This has been one of those semesters where I was finding it hard to stay motivated when it came to my school work. I was taking classes that I found out I did not like too much and getting involved in extracurricular that I was more enthused about than school. After thinking about this for a while I think I realized why this feeling comes about: passion.
The thing that I have been searching for through my blog I may have found. I found it in a way I was not really expecting though and a way that leaves my journey far from over. I realized that I get this feeling of desire because passion comes from within. No one can tell you what you are passionate about because you are not passionate about anything. Your passion comes from inside of you. You do not find what you are passionate for but you put your passion into what it is that you are doing.
Think of it as if you were in a garden surrounded by hundreds of flowers. These flowers represent different aspects and activities in your life. In your hands you hold a watering can. The water represents that passion that fills us all. It is your job to find which flowers you want to water. However, the watering can is smart; it doesn’t let you water flowers that you are not interested in because it knows there is only a limited amount of water.
This is similar to how we don’t feel passionate about some of the things we do. Our body knows that there is a limited amount of passion for us to use. Our body will not let us waste it on things that it knows are not really that important to us. This is why I get the feeling of desire without knowing what I want. It is my body telling me that I have not found what I should use my passion on yet. So in retrospect I am just changing the wording around a bit; I am going from finding my passion to finding what I should use my passion for. However, this idea can still help.
Think about the idea for a second. Go ahead think about it, I’ll wait. . . Okay now back to my point. If our passion comes from within us instead of what we are doing maybe we have just not figured out how to use our passion correctly. Maybe we don’t have a limited amount of passion and my whole analogy was wrong. Trust me this wouldn’t be the first time. Some people are passionate about everything they do. They put everything they have into anything they do. Maybe it’s not about finding your passion or finding what to use it on. Maybe it is about figuring out how to use the passion you possess. However, maybe I am wrong again. Wait, me wrong two times in a row? That doesn’t happen (more than three times a day).
As you can see I am still trying to figure out this whole passion thing. I am still trying to figure out what my true passion is or how to use it or what passion even is. Like I said my journey is far from over and it may be hard. However, it is possible and I don’t need easy I just need possible. So I am going to keep looking and searching and trying to figure out this thing called passion. I hope that if you do the same. Do not just settle for living a mundane life. Go out into the world to go after your dreams and figure out what passion is to you.
