Nature can be such a beautiful place; whether it is a snow-covered tree, a breezy bay view, or a song filled forest, there is a site out there for everyone. I, being a beach boy at heart, prefer the water. I hate running when I am away at school because there is no water. When I am home I can run along three different water fronts and on two boardwalks (I know, I am very spoiled when it comes to scenery). I do not like to run near the water just because of the scenery though; there is just something about the water, something tranquil. Whenever I am near the water I feel relaxed and a sense of calm comes over me. My favorite thing to do when I am mad or frustrated is to go for a run along the water. This helps me fight my frustration for two reasons. The first is because of the running and the second is because of the water.
Everyone has an activity that calms them and helps them clear their head. For me it is working out and running. When I throw my iPod on and start burning those calories away, I just get lost in my mind. I can think about whatever it is that is frustrating me or just whatever is on my mind. I can reflect on myself and figure out what I should do or where I should go. I think that everyone has an activity like this that can help them to clear their head and reflect. Maybe it is doing some sort of physical activity like me; maybe it is something less active like knitting or reading; or maybe it is something unique to you such as playing a musical instrument. No matter what the activity is, it is important to find it.
Another way that can help you reflected on life is to find your spot. Like I said, my spot is anywhere near the water. No matter what I am doing or where I am, when I see a large body of water I automatically go into a deep contemplation like I am some sort of philosopher. Usually I am not contemplating anything of great importance, most of the time it’s something that happened to me throughout the day and a lot of the time it’s about food. However, I know where to go when I do need to think about something important. This helps me to really figure out what is in my subconscious and have a conversation with myself. This is an important part of my journey to self-discover and everyone should find their spot. It can be a spot where you are alone, like a quiet place on the beach, or it can be a spot where you are surrounded, like a park bench. Just find the spot where you can get lost in your mind and figure yourself out.
The reason it is important to find those activities or spots that make you think is because there is so much that can come from just thinking and reflecting. When we reflect, we can find the answers to our questions within ourselves. We can solve our own problems and find our own way. Whenever we cannot get something off our minds or whenever we are frustrated with life, if we found that thing or place that makes our brain think, it will be a lot easier to get passed those frustrations. The more things or places you find the more thinking you can do. Try to combine some like I do with running, water, and music. The more reflecting you do, the closer you are with yourself and the happy you feel all the time. So go out and find what makes you think.
Running, water, working out, nature, playing basketball, listening to music; these are just some of the things that helps me to think and reflect. What are so things or places that help you to reflect on life?
